The ecosystem of Serengeti-Mara is home to the yearly wildebeest migration whereby over 2.5 million Wildebeest, Zebras, and Gazelles follow the rains in search of new pastures. These animals migrate from Serengeti to the Masai Mara around July and August and mostly arrive in September. Along the way, they cross the Mara River and, which is the highlight of this spectacular event. They slowly return to the Serengeti once again around October.

In Africa, Masai Mara is one of the best parks for one to see the big cats. Leopards are usually relaxed, and their behaviors can easily be seen. Cheetahs can easily be spotted on the open Savannah eyeing off their prey. Among the big five, Elephants and buffalos are usually in plenty, however, spotting a black Rhino can be tricky and they are only visible in particular areas.

Grassland and Savannah dominate the scenery of Masai Mara, but patches of acacia woodland, riparian forest, and rocky hills disperse the plains. The Masai word ‘Mara’ implying spotted, refer to the dots in the landscape.

The climate of Masai Mara is generally mild and, which does not deviate a lot from a comfortable 25 °C/77°F in the regions of the dry season (June to October). Temperature variations mainly caused by changes in altitude within the park with conditions getting cooler the higher one climbs. The wet season (November to May) is made up of shorter and more extended rainy periods, which sandwich a brief dry spell.
The interval between short and long rains (January and February) and the dry season (June to October) are the ideal time to visit Masai Mara. During this time, the roads are usually not severely off, since the rains and the thirsty animals generally assemble at the local waterways. The last two months of the dry season are traditionally when the great yearly wildebeest migration happens.
