Apart from the Elephants, it is easier to spot many animals. It is possible to take fantastic photos and early morning are usually the best time to view Mt Kilimanjaro.

Amboseli has perfect wildlife viewing, and four of the big five are available. Rhinos are not available, but the vast herds of elephants move to and from the marshy swamps at the center of the park. Buffalos, wildebeest, Burch ell’s, Zebra and Gazelle are common. It is easier to spot the lions, but sightings are hit and miss.

Within Amboseli, the average daytime temperature is around 28°C/82°F. At night, the average does not go lower than a warm 15°C/59°F. Temperatures usually peak towards the end of the Wet season (October to May), with the April heat is generally high. Temperatures tend to cool down during the Dry season (June to September), afterward the downpours of the ‘long rains,’ and before the lighter showers of the ‘short rains.

The two drier periods of the year, between shorter and longer patches of rainfall and during the dry season (June to September) are the perfect time to visit the park. The game drive will not be affected by the rains, and the animals cannot hide in the vegetation. During this time, the park usually gets busy. During wet months, animals tend to spread out and are not inclined to come to predictable water sources.
